Vodka Infusions
After a conversation about experimenting with various flavored vodkas, we decided to create some of our own. The flavors we are trying are: cucumber, hot chile, pink grapefruit, watermelon, and almond.
Cucumber Infused Vodka
325 ml vodka
1/2 English seedless "hothouse" cucumber sliced
We will check out the flavors in about 3 weeks.
Chile Infused Vodka
750 ml vodka
1 red habenero seeded, and quartered lengthwise
1 jalepeno seeded, and quartered lengthwise
1 serrano seeded, and quartered lengthwise
After a couple of weeks we will check this one. Have a feeling it will be a big hit!
Watermelon Infused Vodka
375 ml vodka
1 cup watermelon cubed
Probably ready after a week.
Almond Infused Vodka
375 ml vodka
1 cup chopped fresh roasted almonds
????
Grapefruit Infused Vodka
375 ml vodka
1/2 pink grapefruit sliced
Good for summer drinks I suspect.
Once these are ready and we start experimenting I will post the hits and misses.

Weekend
Me and some friends went to a new restaurant called Yatra in downtown that has an amazing bar attached to it, Butterfly High and a night club, Bar Bollywood. Amazing food and flavors. We had several exotic cocktails, but the drink that got the highest marks was a non-alcoholic traditional Indian (from India) drink called lassi, that was mango and yogurt. Perfect drink for a sultry, steamy Houston night.
Mango Lassi
1 1/4 cups plain yogurt
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 cup fresh mango pulp
1/3 cup cold water
4 tablespoons honey or sugar
9-10 standard-size ice cubes.
Blend everything but the ice cubes in the blender until the sugar or honey is dissolved. Add the ice and blend until frothy!

This has become one of my favorite libations!
BASIL GIMLET

half a lime
1/2 oz simple syrup
5 basil leaves
gently muddle basil, fresh lime juice and simple syrup in a mixing glass with a wooden muddler. add ice and gin. shake vigorously and then strain into a martini glass. garnish with a basil leaf.
Summer 2007
Mercy it's already so hot! Barely June and it's sweltering outside. Now I do realize I'm in Houston, but geez.
